I bought a Dawes Audax Supreme 2007 to use as a wet weather bike, light tourer and general training bike. I also own a carbon fibre racing bike which is fantastic but impractical for year round riding due to no mudguard clearance. I also missed the ride quality of a steel frame since my last one was wrecked by a white van with me on it! My initail impressions of the ride swayed it for me, very supple and responsive soaking up bad roads a lot better than carbon fibre, the 631 tubing is fairly light and strong. The bike is not particularly light overall at over 11kg but it rides like a much lighter bike. The FSA compact chainset linked to 10 speed 105 is bang up to date and works faultlessly. The Tektro brakes are the only obvious cost cutting component and are awful! I plan to change them for 105 brakes as soon as possible. The Tektros have caused a few hairy moments at junctions wondering if I would stop! A carbon fork would save a lot of weight and modernise the bike further so that would be my second upgrade. Overall I am very pleased with the bike and actually prefer it on a day to day basis to my carbon fibre racer!
