Pearl Izumi was founded by Kinji Shimizu in 1964, based in Japan Kinji’ son Hiro raced for the National team and when gifted his 1st Nylon based cycling jersey in that year it sparked Kinji in to developing a range of clothing that not also used the latest fabrics but Kinji also studied the motion of the body to create a fit that was un-paralleled. Pearl Izumi was developed form this foundation and is still at the fore front of cycling clothing.
Pearl Izumi has developed some of the leading technology in cycling clothing with the support of the finest riders more recently sponsoring BMC with Cadel Evans (Tour de France winner 2007,2011). Innovation is key with Pearl Izumi who are constantly trying new fabrics & designs to lead from the front and over the past 50 years have been the 1st in the industry to feature; Women’s specific cycling panels, introduce soft shell material, Multi density 3D chamois, Mountain bike specific clothing, licenced sublimated jerseys, fully welded cycling shorts, the 1st use of BOA technology in cycling shoes & aero suite development just to name a few of their leading technologies.
