The Bryton Smart Speed Sensor is a compact, magnetless hub-mounted speed sensor that measures wheel rotation and transmits speed and distance data wirelessly via ANT+ and Bluetooth 4.0 to compatible bike computers, smartwatches, and smartphones. Hub-mounted speed sensors provide more consistent and responsive speed data than GPS alone — particularly at low speeds, during acceleration, in tunnels, and in urban environments where GPS signal can be degraded. The Bryton speed sensor makes this data available on any ANT+ or Bluetooth-enabled device without the complexity of magnet-based sensors.
The magnetless design detects wheel rotation directly without needing a separate magnet on the spoke, making installation straightforward on any wheel size. Additional holes for cable ties ensure a secure, rattle-free fit on the hub. The CR2032 battery provides up to 270 hours of active use and 300 days of standby — a widely available, inexpensive cell that takes seconds to replace. The sensor is waterproof to IPX7 (1 metre for 30 minutes) and operates in temperatures from -10°C to 60°C, making it suitable for all-weather and all-season riding. It's the same speed sensor included in the Sensor Bundle variants of the Rider 650, Rider S510, and Rider S810, available here as a standalone sensor for riders who purchased the Device Only variant or want a replacement. For cadence data, the Bryton Smart Cadence Sensor is available separately.

Is it compatible with non-Bryton devices?
Yes — the sensor transmits via standard ANT+ and Bluetooth 4.0 protocols, making it compatible with the vast majority of bike computers, smartwatches, and cycling apps that support speed sensors, including Garmin, Wahoo, and others. It is not limited to Bryton devices.
Why use a speed sensor if my bike computer already has GPS?
GPS speed can be unreliable at low speeds, during rapid acceleration, in tunnels, in urban environments with tall buildings, and indoors. A hub-mounted speed sensor measures wheel rotation directly, providing more consistent and responsive speed data in these situations. Many cyclists use both GPS and a speed sensor together for the most complete and accurate data.
How does a magnetless speed sensor work?
Traditional speed sensors use a magnet on the spoke and a sensor on the chainstay that detects each magnet pass. Magnetless sensors use an accelerometer inside the sensor unit to detect the rotation of the hub directly, without needing a separate magnet. This makes installation simpler — just attach the sensor to the hub with the included cable ties, enter your wheel circumference in your device settings, and pair via ANT+ or Bluetooth.
Is this the same sensor included in the Bryton Sensor Bundles?
Yes — this is the same Smart Speed Sensor included in the Sensor Bundle variants of the Rider 650, Rider S510, and Rider S810. If you purchased the Device Only variant and want to add GPS-independent speed tracking, this is the sensor to buy.
