The Kids Ride Shotgun Magura Rear Brake Kit is the optional hydraulic rear disc brake upgrade for the Dirt Hero balance bike, designed specifically for use with the 14" Wheel Kit which includes the required disc brake mount on the rear hub. It uses a Magura hydraulic disc brake system — a premium, well-regarded brake brand — configured specifically for young riders. The lever is the Magura HC1, featuring exceptional reach adjustment that allows the lever blade to be set very close to the handlebar, making it operable by small hands with minimal grip strength. The master cylinder is constructed from Carbotecture (Magura's carbon-fibre reinforced composite), keeping weight low. The caliper and lever are aluminium. The system runs on mineral oil fluid and includes a 750mm hose. The rotor is a 140mm Magura Storm HC with organic brake pads, providing smooth, progressive stopping power well-suited to a child's balance bike. A child-safe rotor guard is included, covering the spinning rotor to prevent fingers or clothing from making contact with the disc.

This brake kit is an optional but recommended upgrade for older or more confident Dirt Hero riders who are riding faster or on steeper terrain where braking control is beneficial. It is only compatible with the 14" Wheel Kit — the 12" Wheel Kit does not include a disc brake mount and cannot accept this brake. The Magura system uses mineral oil — not DOT fluid. Mineral oil is less corrosive and generally easier to handle than DOT fluid. The system is largely maintenance-free in normal use; bleeding is only required if the lever feels spongy or if the hose is cut or disconnected. Magura mineral oil is available from most bike shops.
