Fenwick's Professional Carbon Assembly Paste is an essential product for any workshop or home mechanic working with carbon fibre components. Carbon assembly paste does the opposite of grease or anti-seize: rather than reducing friction, it increases grip between carbon-to-carbon and carbon-to-metal interfaces, allowing components to be secured at the low torque values specified by carbon component manufacturers without slipping. This is critical for carbon seatposts, handlebars, stems, and any other carbon interface where over-tightening to compensate for slippage risks damaging the component.
The paste contains pliable beads that deform under clamping pressure, creating a micro-textured interface that dramatically increases the friction coefficient between surfaces. This means a carbon seatpost clamped at the manufacturer's specified torque — typically 4–5Nm, far lower than a metal post — will hold securely without creaking or slipping. The 80ml tube with pinpoint nozzle allows precise, targeted application with minimal waste and no need for additional tools. Apply a thin, even layer to the contact area of the component, assemble, and torque to the manufacturer's specification — do not exceed the specified torque value.
Important: carbon assembly paste is specifically for carbon interfaces. Do not use it as a substitute for assembly grease on metal components — use the Fenwick's Assembly Grease for metal-on-metal assemblies. For threaded titanium components, use the Copper Anti-Seize or PTFE Anti-Seize. Browse the full Fenwick's range or explore our workshop and maintenance collection.
Why do carbon components need a special paste?
Carbon fibre has a naturally low friction coefficient, which means clamped interfaces — such as a seatpost in a frame — can slip at the low torque values specified by manufacturers. Over-tightening to compensate risks cracking or crushing the carbon. Carbon assembly paste increases the grip between surfaces, allowing the component to be secured at the correct low torque without slipping.
How do I apply it correctly?
Apply a thin, even layer of paste to the contact area of the component (e.g. the insertion area of a seatpost, or the clamping area of a handlebar). Assemble the component and torque to the manufacturer's specified value — do not exceed it. The paste does the work of holding the component securely; you do not need to over-tighten.
Can I use it on a carbon seatpost in an aluminium frame?
Yes — Fenwick's Carbon Assembly Paste is suitable for carbon-to-metal interfaces as well as carbon-to-carbon. Apply to the seatpost insertion area and torque the clamp bolt to the frame manufacturer's specified value.
Is it the same as assembly grease?
No — carbon paste and assembly grease do opposite things. Assembly grease reduces friction; carbon paste increases it. Using assembly grease on a carbon seatpost will make slipping more likely, not less. Always use the correct product for the interface: carbon paste for carbon, assembly grease for metal.
