Half Term Kids Bike Event with Ridgeback Bikes

by James Heath @ Swinnerton Cycles 13 Oct 2025 0 comments

Thinking of getting your child a new bike for Christmas?

Come and see us this October Half Term!

Saturday 25/10 to Saturday 01/11

Ridgeback Bikes are bringing their demo fleet of children's bikes to our Stoke shop for Half Term! We'll have their whole range to look at: everything from the smallest balance bikes for 2-3 year olds, to big 26" wheel mountain bikes to suit 10-12 year olds.

The full fleet will be out in the showroom, so you and your child can take a closer look, and we'll be there to answer any questions. We'll sit them on the bike to make sure it's safe and comfortable, and has plenty of growing room for the future.

Scroll down to see an overview of the Ridgeback Bikes Range.

Not Just Ridgeback Bikes

While it's great to have Ridgeback's whole fleet in the store, they're certainly not the only option we can offer you. If you can't see what you have in mind, take a look at one of our other great brands like Trek, Giant or Merida. There should be something for everyone.

Bikes for Young Adults

Outgrown kids bikes? Need something a bit more grown-up? Our Adult mountain bikes start at XXS frame size for the Trek Marlin range, suitable for 4'6" upwards. If you want something a little more serious, we have good options to suit 4'11" upwards, like the Giant STP below. Pop in for a chat or get in touch.

Christmas Club

Seen something you like? Join our Christmas Club! Order the bike with us in October or November, and we'll take care of the rest. We'll assemble and safety check the bike for you, and keep it safely in storage for you until the big day. You can collect it any time up until midday on Christmas Eve!

We require at least 50% deposit to get things started, and you can pay the remaining balance on collection to spread the cost.

We know that Christmas can be an expensive time of year. If you want to spread the load a little, have a look at our finance options from PayPal and Klarna.

The Ridgeback Range

Balance Bikes

Scoot and Scoot XL

The Ridgeback Scoot is a great first step into cycling. Designed for ages 2-4 (height dependent), the Scoot features a lightweight aluminium frame, 12" aluminium wheels, and a rear brake for safety. Unlike cheaper balance bikes, the Scoot has real bike components, with durable sealed bearings in the hubs and headset, rather than the plastic bushings you'll find in a lot of cheaper models. Scoot XL takes the same principle, but suits slightly taller children.

Pedal-Powered Bikes

Ridgeback MX14 and Honey

The 14" wheel Ridgeback MX14 is a great first bike. It's lightweight, and features a low bottom bracket to improve stability and suit a greater range of rider heights. The brakes are easy to reach and adjust, and the stabilisers are easy to fit and remove – let us know whether you would like them installing or not. The chain guard helps prevent little oily fingerprints, while the singlespeed drivetrain keeps weight and complexity low. The Ridgeback Honey is the same bike, just with slightly more "girly" colours, if that's the sort of thing you're looking for – both bikes are unisex in design. This should fit kids between ~100 and 110cm (3'3"–3'9")

Ridgeback MX16 and Melody

The MX16 and Melody are just like the MX14 and Honey, just with a larger frame and 16" wheels. Same lightweight construction and quality components, just scaled up to suit slightly older kids. These two great bikes should work for kids between ~110 and 125cm (3'9"–4'2") – that's roughly 4 to 6 years old, depending on how enthusiastically your child has been growing.

Ridgeback MX20 and Harmony

Now we're getting serious: The Ridgeback MX20 and Melody ditch the stabilisers in exchange for gears and front suspension. Aimed at kids between ~120 and 135cm (4'1"–4'8"), you get a lightweight aluminium frame with low standover height, allowing them to start small and grow into the bike a little more. The 20" wheels come with knobbly all-terrain tyres, and the 6-speed gears allow them to explore a wider range of terrain. There is a small difference in frame design between the Melody and MX20; the Melody has a more sloped top tube, but in reality this is only going to be beneficial if your child plans to ride in a long skirt or dress: Just pick the one you like the colour of best.

Ridgeback MX24 and Destiny

The MX24 and Destiny take things up another step, with 24" wheels, suspension forks and 3 x 7-speed gears. If your child is looking to venture a little further afield, this bike is well worth a look. It's aimed at 8–11 year olds – roughly 4'6" to 5'0". The low top tube and bottom bracket allow it to fit a wide range of heights, while helping make the handling more stable.

Ridgeback MX26 and Serenity

At this size, it is well worth looking at adult bikes in very small sizes – Trek offer some models of their Marlin range all the way down to an XXS frame size with 26" wheels. However, the MX26 is sitll a compelling option, with the same sturdy and simple spec as the MX24, just fitted onto a larger frame with 26" wheels. It should work well for children aged roughly 9 to 13 – roughly 4'11"-5'2". As many children tend to grow rapidly around this age, it's well worth trying bikes for size, and getting one which is as big as they can safely and comfortably get away with.

The Fancy Ones

Ridgeback Dimension Series

Thinking of something a little more up-market? If your child is going to be using their bike more regularly – perhaps on the school run, not just for leisure rides – then it might be worth looking at the Dimension range. Available in all of the same size intervals as the MX series (14", 16", 20", 24", 26"), the Dimension range keeps a rigid fork to save weight, while making use of slightly higher grade frames and components. If you want a bike which weighs less, goes faster and will hold up well in daily use, look no further.
